a large number have come under my observation. As the signs, symptoms and apparent causation of the disease agreed in many instances with Morehead's description of Beriberi, I had begun to regard the outbreak as one of veritable beriberi; and some of the last cases that occurred amongst the men of my regiment I entered under this heading. As Morehead's book may not be in every one's hands, I here quote his views of the pathology of the disease.
